Texas TITANS Track

Premier Middle and Long Distance Track for All Ages

Premier Middle and Long Distance Running Excellence

The Team, Then Program, The Coach!

The Team and The Mission
Texas TITANS athletes are national qualifiers and national medal winners.  Each TITAN athlete is expected to strive to compete at this level of competition as high standards and personal accomplishment are a mainstay of this program.  The personal growth of each athlete on and off the track is of the utmost importance.  The program is designed to develop highly competitive middle and long distance youth athletes and to assist them in excelling beyond expectations.

The Program
Middle-distance and long distance athletes compete in the 800m, 1500m, 3000m, steeplechase, and the 4x800m relay with workouts designed to develop each individual athlete.  The events in the outdoor season are contested through the USA Track & Field Developmental Program.

The goal for each season is for each athlete to strive to qualify for either or both of the USATF national meets, the Junior Olympics and the Youth Outdoor Track and Field Championships.  The long-term goal is for each athlete to strive to be a collegiate runner.  The ultimate goal is for each to strive to be a life-long athlete of good character and achievement.

The Coach
Head Coach Debbie Hammond has been coaching track for well over ten years in addition to being an athlete most of her life.  She played softball for the
University of Michigan, was state ranked in cycling in the late 1980s, and spent time at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs training with the US Olympic Cycling Team.  In the years since, she has been active in several different sports and competitions. She is also a runner, competing in masters track.  Coach Hammond is a USA Track & Field Level 2 Nationally Certified Coach.

The USATF Junior Olympics

To qualify for the Junior Olympics, athletes must compete in the Southwestern Association meet (top 6 move on), followed by the National Region 12 Meet, where the top 3 athletes and relays in each event then qualify for the USA Track & Field Junior Olympics.

The Youth Outdoor Track & Field National Meet
Qualifying for the USATF Youth Outdoor National Meet is by time.  There is a set of standards (times/marks/heights) that must be met.  This can be done at any practice meet, high school meet or middle school meet, run in the previous 12 months, that is electronically timed.  The times are set by age group.

Texas TITANS at National Meets
Each year, the team produces multiple (many) national qualifiers, most in more than one event.  In the 8 seasons of the Texas TITANS, there has been 15 national medals with 1 National Champion, 58 national qualifying runs/throws/jumps, 14 Region 12 Champions with one Region 12 record, and 24 Association Champions.

Indoor Track
For high school students, the Texas TITANS have participated in Indoor Track meets at the University of Houston, the University of Arkansas, Texas A&M University, Pittsburg State (KS), and LSU.  These meets are held in January and February during the off season.  It is great preparation for the upcoming school season and great experience for collegiate track and field.

The Rest of the Year
The TITANS program has supplemental fall and spring practices during the school seasons.  Coach Hammond is a year round coach, attending cross-country and school track meets when possible, supporting Texas TITAN athletes.  She is also available for private training throughout the school year.
